Abrahamsson, Artibani re-elected

EAU Secretary-General Per-Anders Abrahamson (Sweden) and Walter Artibani (Italy), Adjunct- Secretary General Science, were re-elected to their current posts yesterday during the General Assembly for a second four-year term.

Both Abrahamsson and Artibani were re-lected with majority votes, prompting Abrahamsson to thank the EAU members for the confidence vote. The General Assembly also approved the amended bylaws with a majority vote. Meanwhile, Igor Korneyev (St. Petersburg, Russia) was approved as the new chair of the EAU Membership Office, replacing Prof. Ioanel Sinescu whose term ended. The EAU Board thanked Sinescu (Romania) for his service, as they cited the stable and high membership growth seen recent years.

EAU membership as of March 2011 totaled 14,759 members compared to the 13,410 members recorded in March 2010, or an additional 1,349 new members. Active members totalled to 6,386, while Active International members totalled to 2,171, according to EAU records.

At the General Assembly the agenda also looked at the financial, strategic and educational affairs of the EAU, including a short presentation from the EAU Research Foundation and a preview of the 27th Annual EAU Meeting to be held in Paris from February 24 to 28, 2012.
